Interestingly, the old testament itself used to have a lot more references to the ancient polytheistic religions that coexisted with Judaism and proto-Judaism at the time. Unfortunately this caused unease among certain christians, and in newer translations of the bible these references to the rich and varied semitic mythology have been systematically erased in a centuries long campaign of "de-demonization" of the old testament.
