I don't think her love is poorly established at all.

If you thought that her story about Shirou trying the jump was the only reason she loved him, I could see that.

But the fact is they've been hanging out and supporting each other for over a year when the story starts out. They're close friends and you can tell that from the way they interact with each other. That story is the reason that she first noticed him, not the focus of their love.

The extreme lengths Shirou goes to, of course, aren't properly developed. But their relationship felt genuine at least.
