The difference lies in the fact that while Mai might appear to be closer to a functioning member of magical civilisation, she has zero, no, NEGATIVE desire to change her ways.
Arisu may be a mess psychologically, but she at least does not actively harm anyone in her exploits. It would be BETTER for Mai to stay home, but alas she does not.

Yuki and Mai's fights are famous Makaiwide for being random and excessively painful.
Louise has been thinking of stepping in lately, but everyone tells her that it's more trouble than just letting them do their thing, which is a shame since Yuki is in tears bawling her heart out nearly every time Mai's done with her.
Really, she's just a mess each and every time.
And time and time again, Yuki runs over to Mai, apologises for having the slightest of backbones, and lets her "friend" walk all over her in exchange for Mai's empty assertations of love.
It's pretty annoying to have to give the same advice over and over again (That being to let Mai come to you, Yuki, she doesn't mean what she says [she does]), only for the stupid girl to throw all sense to the wind and let the whole cycle start all over again.
It would be infuriating if it wasn't so sad, since Mai has utterly broken Yuki's sense of self-love and independance.
That time Elis gave her diahorroea as a prank was the only time anyone's seen her get anything close to what she deserves.
Elis really is the hidden GOAT of Makai.
