If you can see beauty in a tired, overworked young girl who's despaired of ever having a decent life - if you can feel something for a girl who's at her lowest, least-attractive point, miserably mopping some back hallway, no makeup on, weary, looking half-dead... then it must be genuine. Attraction doesn't get purer then that.
