In Ran's case I think that's something she would do if she was ordered to, her character doesn't spark me as willfully taking advantage of people to do evil; maybe in her past which is something that could be explored. With regards to the youkai fox cranked to 11, I imagine that's something she'd show to you as a litmus test on whether you could stomach staying with her, a last chance to back out deal.

She was in it and became the Nemesis stand in later. The author got burned out on that one unfortunately, feels like he wrote himself into a corner.
