As much as it seems funny most of people in world see USA by prism of coca-cola, McDonalds, movies about policemen or gangsters and New York City.

Can you imagine Asian or Arab or even European "nerds" reading American comics about Spider Man and dreaming about honour codex of American Policemen. It's the same as you think of Japan, but replace policemen with samurai and replace Cola with Tea (which is funny because even in Europe people drink tea in huge amounts).

It's rather Japanese view and imagination on European culture. Sure they can copy visual aspects, but it's still Japanese culture. With characters reacting in Japanese way, thinking Japanese way and doing what Japanese expect to do. Or in best case it's how Japanese imagine country portrayed in that thing.
The culture gap is really big. And really it's even bigger than culture gap between N. America and Europe or other regions. In Japan white is black and black is white. Literally.
