The fact that so many books still name Reimu as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" shrine maiden ever only tells you how far Touhou still is from becoming a serious art. Anime critics have long recognized that the greatest anime girls of all times are Kagura (Azumanga Daioh [1999]) and Tsuruya (Nyoro-n Churuya-san [2009]), who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Touhou critics are still blinded by commercial success; Reimu is more popular than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore she must be the greatest.
