The only reason she's so damn worthless is because of her abilities, which are lackluster at best. She's a martial artist, according to canon, so pretty much in a straight up non-magic fight with anyone, she will beat the shit out of them. Thing is, everyone has magic or some stupid power, which makes her absolutely useless in a fight.

She's probably the only character with any physical training, and the rest just rely on stupid powers.

As far as her status as a gate guard, she's good at keeping the normal riffraff out, which is kind of her job. As far as the other characters, she's by far the nicest. As long as you don't try to get through the gate, she's downright pleasant to anyone, which is much more than can be said for even the main protagonists...which means she's also probably the easiest to romance if you so desire.
