My headcannon is that, when Nasu gave up doing male king Arthur, the next logical choice would be naturally Janne D'arc, but Excalibur myth and symbology is so strong in Japanese rpg and chunni circles, that he preferred to work around the character genre, just to be able to use Excalibur and its lore.
