I only powder mine when I'm not planning on using them for a longer time.
Got a few of those cloth things that slide over a chopstick. Rinse, shake, dry with those things, done.

Are there any reports it breaking? Seems pretty sturdy. Cleaning is a bitch yeah, helps if you have a long chopstick or skewer wrapped around in a microfiber cloth. See relevant pic.

If you're willing to mutilate the SPDX you can stab the back aand try to open it up for easier cleaning.
