Most of the people I'm acquainted with know that. They think I'm trying to become some sort of an international entrepreneur and that it's all work related or something like that, always praising me for "learning an impossible to learn language". No one even suspects what my true goal might be.

>what should I do in that case?
If you can't understand the sentence: try breaking it down to particles and words and translate them accordingly. Consult the COR if you don't know / forget what a certain particle does. Use Wiktionary or Jisho for words you don't understand. If you like wasting a couple of minutes every day - mine them and create your own Anki deck. If you have troubles disassembling a sentence - try Jisho (but only if you fail yourself or want to check your guess! Don't rely on it!). If you don't understand some slang term or some weird dialect - ask DJT, there's always at least one competent person or you could try figuring it out yourself (if you do know basic Japanese, I guess it wouldn't be a problem for you to look elsewhere).

And read. Read a lot. Your brain is gonna pick up certain patterns and in no time you'll be thinking "where did I heard it?" instead of "what does it mean?". That's how you pick up a language.

At least that's what I did to read webm related.
