CB is honestly poorly explained. It's really simple once you get used to it
hits with sword>build up meter (phials)>use the one move to get said phials to use>now use them for whatever you want
I think people get confused by transformation and buildup being separate things unlike the switchaxe. CB can use the power mode without the phials, and transforming your weapon modes isn't directly tied to the meter you're building up, athough there's not much reason to do so. Once you learn that difference and learn which moves do what it's no different than switchaxe, or even insect glaive or dual blades. Hit shit to build meter, use meter, do more damage
