Am I supposed to hate Amatsutsumi's protagonist? As in actively despise him and everything he says and does, and feel bad for everyone forced to come in contact with him. He's one of the most selfish, uncaring, destructive persons I've ever seen in fiction. All he seems to care about is himself, no care for the thoughts and emotions and lives he tramples on, manipulates and takes advantage of. He's the kind of person who doesn't help others because he genuinely wants them to be happy, he just wants to bathe in the feeling of doing good and to enjoy the smiles of the people around him. Doesn't matter to him if they're real smiles and real happiness, or if they're lies he created and forces on other people, as long as they're happy it's fine. Is this what the author was going for?
