>Do you think that if UFA does make a bid for the American market they will have an easier time not falling into the same pit here?
Thats the fascinating thing about the U.S.A., no matter how hard they try to act like other cultures, countries, they will always be uniquely different. So even the hardest of the wota faggotry will have an American flavor.
>that the majority of the population has no idea what an idol is
I believe you are wrong here, we have a TREMENDOUS idea of what an american idol is.
But the general population doesn't know about the type of idol UFA has up its sleeve, it is generally an untapped area. Perhaps the Jonas Brothers come close in the type of moralistic idol approach but recently they have announced they fuck around.
>assuming that you were speaking of some level of "mainstream" success in the US
Another beauty of the American music industry, the best successes are always ones that aren't truly mainstream until the corporate machine attempts to copy the formula.
The real question is what musical direction does Tsunku truly wish to steer Musume towards.
Can they be successful without a American launch pad?
Without an international launch pad, I don't really think so, ironically it has become apparent that the Japanese are having a knee jerk hater reaction to Musume because of the fanbase it has generated over the last couple years. To snap out of this, I think Musume would have to make a real impact internationally to build jealousy back into the Japanese fans to reclaim their national idols once more.
