Agreed. I think the majority of people who watch it, though, jump on the bandwagon (as >>12642073 puts it well) and watch the popular things such as Attack on Titan. There was a recent comic-con type event in my city and I saw some photos posted. In the background you could see stores selling clothing with AOT symbols on them; this seemed to be the most common type of cosplay too.

I think Dota's ability to become common is limited by LoL's popularity. Something of a giant damper as it sponges up players with the 'I play this game, you should play it too so we can play together' idea. It will probably grow at a steady rate.

Of course, I agree. You're probably right about the Japanese bandwagoners, but I think it will grow at a slower rate than here, mainly due to alot of young people actually being fans of various franchises, but also the general reservations about Otaku and their connection to loli, serial killing etc. Maybe it will be the new punk.
