Oh my god this is brilliant. I love this idea.

You can buy blank heads on Volks' webstore for around $30-$50, and if you want to try painting your own, there are guides around. Your first ones will 100% look like shit, but that's fine, and that's normal, and that's just part of learning a new craft -- don't overthink things. Custom heads cost more-- sometimes far, far more-- but you can find cute and affordable heads on yahoo japan auctions and secondhand ebay sales if you look around. Whole dolls, too -- my first doll was a DDS Mayu, and I got her for around $300 on ebay. It's still a lot of money, but if you save up a little at a time, eventually you'll have enough. I never thought I could participate in this hobby anon, I genuinely never thought I'd be able to -- but things change, and I've found a way. You will, too.

Have you ever seen Azone Pure Neemo? They're small and have painted-on eyes, but they're how I got started in this hobby, and you can frequently find them secondhand for under $100 USD. Small Obitsu/Parabox dolls are also an affordable way to test the waters before you spring for a whole 2ft tall Dollfie Dream.

Damn really? I'm used to feeling like I'm the only one with dolls within 500 miles. It's only like 1-2 hours for me, depending on the traffic, and I only mention it because generally speaking, it's an easy to identify landmark -- if people want to meet up, I'm down to try and arrange something.

There's a few vinyl bootlegs out there, Snow Miku and Saber, I believe, but they look... comically off-model. So far, there haven't been nearly as many problems as there are in the resin side of the hobby -- I think it's at least partially because vinyl (and the plastic skeletons) are harder to replicate, at least thus far.

Is that your girl, anon? She's lovely. I still cherish my first doll, too -- if I could only keep one, it would have to be her.

Her name is Eris, because she looks... like that. That was her outfit the night she came in the mail, but thankfully she cleans up nicely from there.
