Let me put this another way using Kyouko as an example again.

Let's say (since I'm not sure of how canon this is) Kyouko is really well known around Gensokyo because of her rock band with Mystia. Human children know her and love the music. Their parents know her too but not nearly so positively.

If all of the humans learned that echoes have nothing to do with youkai, would Kyouko vanish like the rest of her kind, or would she continue to exist as normal because she, as an individual, is so well known by humans?
