Their "we're not VK REEEEEEEE" phase was in the mid 2000s, when they started touring the US with nu metal bands and wanted to dissociate with VK completely, even Kyo asking fans to stop coming to shows cosplaying DEG's older looks.
But I think ever since around Uroboros and later, they started incorporating some VK elements back, and in recent years Kyo went back to VK antics pretty hard.
"once VK, always VK".
Not that VK is a bad or good thing, it's just a vague way to describe bands that might or might not wear make up and fancy clothes.
They're related to Free Will (Dynamite Tommy), so yeah they're VK in that strict sense.
