Seems like it's safe when it's in your cart from reading the user guide, at least for 30 minutes.

I might be incorrect here but from what I can gather from their users' guide it seems like an item total goes down when a user places an item in their cart rather than orders it. Hence why it gets removed after 30 minutes. If this is true then that might explain why some out of stock items come back for a bit.
