I'm glad about that. I don't mind computer analogies as it gives some insight into shikigami mechanics and the linuxfox joke is funny, but taken to the end it made her into a non-character where any of her actions or speech were predetermined and thus had no value at best, and at worst it undercut the weight of her previous actions. I think that was more a symptom of being chained to Yukari in scenes where her role was either plot device or stand in for the audience to have something explained; there was no room for another character with an ego around Yukari as she had to be the focus. The few rare times we see Ran alone with a speaking role is when we get a sense of her real character.
I'd believe it if she was just going on autopilot when around Yukari or on a job, and only cut back on the act when she had time to herself. The winter season when she's bored the most would be a great time to get familiar and keep her company, warm tails as a bonus. She's got a lot of time to waste with Yukari's sleeping habits.
Being her shiki wouldn't be bad, though computational ability doesn't equate to intelligence; no offense to her, but Chen is proof of that. There's also the question of bandwidth: Ran is already raising a shiki of her own and power you gain comes from Yukari, I'm not sure she could give you enough power to even reach Chen's level.
