The thought just flashed in my mind just now - the moment I would propose to Banki.

I would find her by the riverbank, as usual. underneath a willow tree. She would always give me a disinterested gaze even though we'd been seeing each other for a while now. At this point, I was, to her, still only "a weirdo who would go out of his way to talk with me". But today I'd come in my cleanest yukata, and was hiding something behind my back.

She would feign disinterest at this too, at first, but her cautious nature would inevitably lead her to ask what it was I was holding. And that's when I'd pop the question. I'd bring out the tiny wooden box. Lifting the lid would reveal a ring, made of a slightly cheap but still precious metal, with a tiny cut of a gem I'd saved up all my summer labor to buy. Just the sight of her panicked, flushed face makes my heart race, and in the end she could not even bring herself to speak. And instead, she would pull close, tug at my sleeve and bury her face in my chest.

People ought to appreciate Banki-chan more.
