My grandfather actually WAS in WWII (he died in 2019 of kidney failure at 94). He was on a destroyer escort called the USS Wilhoite. This is his ship

He thought the girls in Kancolle were cute. His exact comment on my Shimakaze poster was 'she's a coquettish girl'. He actually appreciated my enjoyment of Japanese anime and told me once my great grandfather would be proud. He was a Christian missionary to Japan in 1916 but came home to fight in the first world war. My great grandfather died before I was born. Yesterday's enemy is today's friend.

Still no submarine but I can craft a second Shimakaze? Serious?
