My girlfriend is Japanese (and ~7-8 years older than me). We met through work, while she was here on a visa. We really started talking and going out after we found out we liked the same music (metal, punk, rock in general, etc. We're both huge fans of Maximum the Hormone and we both play bass guitar). Of course, since she was here on a visa, she had to go back to Japan and won't be back until the summer at least.

I planned on going to Japan this Christmas, but unfortunately one of her family members is in a coma and will most likely die within the month or so, so it would be a bad time for me to go there. I think I'll postpone it until Spring Break, though. It's nice knowing that her mother is learning English to be able to speak with me, though, so I'm really excited to go to Japan and be able to speak with her in my bad Japanese, and for her to speak with me in her bad English.

There are a lot of Japanese women online, though, I would say if you're looking for "a Japanese girlfriend" then you're probably going about it wrong. My only real advice is to try to make Japanese friends in general and explore the culture. Ask your Japanese friends to teach you about their ways of life, what they like, all of that sort of stuff. It's relatively easy to turn a good friendship into a relationship, if you're socially aware enough.

Let things happen organically, really. That's the best advice I could give.
