It was actually not bad for a light novel, the conversation was witty and engaging, with the action scenes actually being easy to follow and to get engrossed in. Araragi/Shinobu relation and banter came naturally too and I could get the final resolution when it came.
It was also very exciting to see how much of the whole novel they packed in those 30s at the start of the Bakemonogatari anime, made me want the Kizu movies much more, too bad they've been delayed until next year, and who knows how long until we get the BD release.

The one issue I found was how meta it had to get to keep acknowledging that it was really light, "highschool boy gets powers and fights for the future" fare all the time by actually making him train by reading shonen manga and bad light novels. Author should have had more confidence in himself, but I suppose it's Nisio Isin's trademark style.

Shame I can't read the original japanese. Not only would I get all the wordplay that is such an integral part of the monogatari series, but I wouldn't have to wait forever for translations.

The Araragi/Shinobu banter was enjoyable too, by the end you could see how complicated their relationship really is and why the rest of the series goes the way it does.

Are we allowed spoilers here? Hard to assume that everyone has read Kizu or the rest of the novels.
