Well, remember what June is: the reproductive strategy of her species is based around having incredibly addictive venom. They bite some poor fool, turn him into a junkie, and then keep him on a (sometimes literal) leash, using him as a walking sperm bank and not much else. Combine that reproductive strategy with June's own insecurity, insatiable need to control others and extremely vengeful nature and you get a very unpleasant person. She's basically a female angler fish.

The story then puts her in the same room with the MC, who is also just overflowing with cruelty and paranoia, and you get a situation where the only possible outcome is the two brutalizing each other in an miserable power struggle.

That's what made Vengeance so enthralling to me. It felt like watching Breaking Bad for the first time, where you realize that as a viewer, these characters are just going to keep getting meaner and meaner.

Another good comparison would be to The Boys. Like, "yeah, you give superpowers to a bunch of insecure teenagers, add some hypersexuality to the mix, and this is what would happen." None of it felt forced to me. It made complete sense. This world, and the people in it, just aren't ready for MGs yet.
