I got really sold on the AOU characters through the data fragments.
I got sold on a few others through the game as well though, like Toujirou, Lingji, Maricarmen, and Naima. I'm super easy to please though,. and I don't really like any of these characters as much as I do with any other WtC work.
The main emotional pull of the game was mainly just the destruction of ideals and stuff, but I'm hoping for more character driven stuff in the future.
I get a feeling some of the other characters like the Yeladot Shavit girls and Mariana will be super interesting in the future phases if all goes well.

I do find bioregulations annoying and short-sighted a lot of the time. They seem to be based more on what regulators think sounds icky than in any genuine utilitarian calculation.
Consider the Covid vaccine. Many people don't realize that for example the Moderna vaccine was designed and ready at the end of last year's January. We spent a year on testing due to regulations. What we could have done instead is human challenge trials, where volunteers are intentionally injected with the virus after being given the vaccine. This is so much faster that we could have started shipping vaccines last year's May. (Obviously you would incur the risk of the vaccine having unforeseen long-term consequences, but that is a possibility with anything you do.)
Still I wouldn't necessarily call it stupidity. I think most people don't care much about living forever, so technical solutions for immortality aren't as valuable as they might appear to somebody who does care. And in any case these are difficult issues to solve even if there's political will for it.
