In that case, they will have quite a distance to travel to reach Gura's home.
The only way to do it then is Nether travel.

walking speed: 4.3 m/s
sprinting speed: 5.6 m/s
minecart speed: 8 m/s

But in the nether, 1 block is 8 blocks on the overworld.
So you can multiply all of these by 8:

walking speed: 34.4 m/s
sprinting speed: 44.8 m/s
minecart speed: 64 m/s

Even walking through the nether is 4 times faster than going by minecart on the overworld

However, the nether has a huge problem, torches do not stop the spawning of mobs. Therefore, travel is always going to be relatively dangerous. There are ways to stop the spawning, creatures will not spawn on half-blocks or stairs, so you can pave your road with half-blocks. But you cannot place a railroad on a half-block, so rail-travel is out. Even so, securing a path through the nether can save lots of time. It's not always easy to figure out your exit portal location though, you can calculate it using coordinates
