Yeah, that date felt like it dragged on thanks to how well EP1 ended, and you don't really know that it's important until later on, so when you combine the two with the relatively milquetoast characters of Shannon and George (at the time at least) it wasn't easy to immediately move on. At least the Jessica bit had the comedy of edgy Kanon and Touhou Jessica to keep it going.
