I came into this thread expecting simple yandere stuff, not angst from two people wanting what they perceive to be the best for the other and struggling to achieve that. I like it, but God would it be miserable failing to live up to Eiki's expectations.

The four of you sit at a Japanese rest stop deep in the mountains. It's the only flash of civilization for miles, with thick forested mountains separating it from villages as far as the eye can see. Renko pulls out her smartphone while Maribel fiddles with the selfie stick, before she finally pulls it up, each girl with her arm around her boyfriend, pulling everyone together for a group selfie. A friendly woman walks over and asks if she can help take the picture, but Renko and Maribel just glare at her. The silence is incredibly awkward, and the woman walks away, unsure what had happened. Smiles return to the faces of the girls as they snap the picture.

The bus going back to the city won't be until later that day, so you've plenty of time. Maribel scouts ahead while Renko stays back, rambling on about her latest study. She recently learned of this ancient Western saint, St. Christopher. He was depicted as a dog-headed man, a cynocephali, in many ancient depictions, and was said to be a cruel man who eventually turned to Christ. Once he carried Christ over a river, he was cured of his dog-headed-ness. Renko says that she heard this dog-headed depiction was just a strange translation issue with the word cananite, but Renko proposes a new theory - what if these cynocephali were, as ancient sources recorded, real, but when St. Christopher carried Christ over a river, God altered reality to change the past itself, turning these dog-people human? She rambles on about the metaphysics, but it all goes past your head.

Maribel meanwhile announces that she has something, so you all gather around to look. It's a small shrub. You ask if this is it, and Maribel laughs. "Of course not, it's in front of the shrub!" The only thing you see in front is a squirming caterpillar. Maribel laughs even more at this, saying you're one of the funniest people she knows. You see nothing though, you're adamant about this and say so. Eventually, your repeated denial begins to make the girls get flustered. It's there, why can't you see it? The other boyfriend stays silent, whether out of shyness, confusion, submission, or what you can't say. Renko grabs you by the neck and pulls you closer to the ground. You struggle (Renko's grip has always been shockingly strong), and when you're able to wiggle out of her grasp you notice that you're in a purple void. All four of you are.

You struggle to breathe, what is this place? Is this hell, this can't be real. Your Hifuu girlfriend holds your hand and offers you a warm look. "See? We told you, didn't we?" You try to formulate words about how this situation is absurd and horrifying, but you can't. All you can do is grip to the side of your lover, face buried in her clothes.

You all float freely for a while, until Renko comes across a floating decahedron, and kicks it. Reality snaps back into place. It's sunset and you're all laying in a grassy knoll, cicadas chirping above you and the sun saying goodnight to this summer day. The girls then begin to excitedly laugh and start rolling together, including you and the other boyfriend. Maribel congrats Renko, because this has proven her theory on the flux of dark matter's hydrogenetic influence on a person's memories. You're dead certain you've never heard either girl mention such a thing before, but it doesn't matter. Today seems to have been a rousing victory for the Hifuu Club.

You've all missed the bus, so all there is to do is camp out under the stars. Despite it being summer, the night has managed to get somewhat cool, so you've all laid together for warmth. You're forced to cuddle to the side of your lover, as she has her arms around both you and her best friend. If any passerby decided to delve this deep into the forest, they might wonder what on Earth these autistic weirdos were doing, clinging together. But thankfully, there would be no soul delving into these ancient mountains tonight. None but your own, and the dreams of youkai above you. Tonight, the Hifuu Club would sleep soundly, knowing that the four of them had managed to solve another mystery, and one of many more to come in the future. As lovers until the end of time, and best friends until the end of time. An inseparable quartet.
