You can make gunpowder fairly easy.

Softwood charcoal, sulfur, and a nitrate salt at 12.5, 12.5, and 75% by weight. You can estimate this with a balance easily- use a distinct-looking rock as your weight. One rock, one rock, eight rocks' worth. You may have problems making or getting nitrate, but the villagers may trade it to you.

Failing trade, you can make it thru a variety of methods.

Grinding it finely will help but your best bet is wet milling- which you can do with river stones in a cask and a creek. From there granulate it thru a mesh, which is hard to make but a size about the texture of kosher salt is around the right particle size for a gun's black powder will work.

A fuse can be made with rice straw filled with gunpowder, and sealed/coated with lacquer, wax or tar to prevent the powder from getting wet.

TL;DR if you can make bread from wheat you can make gunpowder.

I wasn't important. I mean, I seem to have been to her. But it was actually a fairly comfy life. Not... exciting. At least not after I settled in. before that was fucking terrifying.
