Communities can be big or small and there are various subcommunities. So long as there's a shared interest(s) and there's at least 2 people, it can be called a community. 4chan's fumo threads can be considered a subcommunity for the overall fumo community even though the western fumo community originated from 4chan. I recommend reading The Art of Community by Charles H Vogl.

I'd post a fumo reading it but I don't actually own a physical copy of the book.
