It was only natural. She's the true miss Higurashi.

If Satoko tearfully says Shion is her nee nee herself in the middle of Matsuri, you're clearly not meant to take her denial caused by embarrassment at the end seriously. She's also embarrassed by her babying back in Minagoroshi you know. It's pretty damn obvious what's going on, this is classic tsundere stuff just like Keiichi points out.

>I don't think using Kataribanashi really helps your point
It's a completely realistic scenario, that of Rika doing something as simple as following Takano to find out what happens to them, which befits the less passive Rika from Matsuri. And of course not everything in Kataribanashi is "equal" considering it even has a love potion story much like the comedic Hirukowashi-hen, plus bad endings after Matsuri are no longer out of the table now that Gou is a thing after all, though to be fair it wasn't caused by L5 this time.

>Well, she didn't actually think they'd openly expose themselves and kill cops to get to her
Actually she did, that's why the Yamainu don't find them inside the shack in the first place and instead eat up one of Satoko's traps. Still it was extremely short sighted to think that even with that kind of headstart that she'd be able to escape this large organized group of professional mercenaries, and indeed she would have been screwed even earlier that she ended up being if her other friends hadn't popped up to save her, something she wasn't expecting.
>There's Mion, like you pointed out, but she does that to one point or another in every arc post-Meakashi.
Like I pointed out clearly, the Shion in Matsuri is very different from the one in Minagoroshi and that can be attributed to her different understanding of her memories from Meakashi. And I don't think it's even shown she remembers it in Tsumihoroboshi so it's pretty much just Mina and Matsuri.
>Meanwhile, Rika explicitly could remember nothing from Minagoroshi and was just following her trust in Hanyuu.
But the point is that not only is Rika the least passive she's ever been in Matsuri, the issues we're talking could be dealt with either way because it's the other characters who would remember things. Rika gave up twice early in Minagoroshi, it's her friends who gave her hope back. Rika doesn't need to remember Minagoroshi for Keiichi and the others to save Satoko from Teppei for example.
