I'm guessing the body mocap is still traditional camera, probably with fiducials (those little white balls for the software to pick up). The breakthrough here is the software they're using to map pose, facial expression, and mouth flaps to the model is finally good enough to do this in realtime with minimal editing or retakes, "good enough" being the key here. You can clearly see clipping and jitter throughout Ai's videos. If they were heavily editing the mocap with human effort, why wouldn't they also edit those out?

My greatest hope is that they use this technology to produce more tesagure seasons.
