So I missed the discussion a few days ago about the KC night gaunt that will be showing up as a cover girl on a magazine this month. I get some people take issue with how different she seems, even accounting for this being what one looks like without a husband. I hope we get some more info when the magazine comes out, but my two cents is that this is KC showing what a night gaunt looks like with almost all of her black body film removed/uncovered. Perhaps the only part remaining is over her hands, where it has been shaped to be more claw like than the underlying fingers.

As for how expressive she's being, this would presumably be because she is supposed to be looking at her husband/the reader or someone she wants to become her husband. The profile notes that to their own kind and to their husbands their faces are quite expressive, these expressions just aren't visible to others.
