Eh, not really the same. Though, now that I consider it, it's likely because the source material is very dark. Eastern mythology is pretty wildly dark and out there.

Seriously, though, I mean, everyone is some kind of demon, or ghost. Maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe in Nipland they don't see demons and ghosts as dark?
And demons and ghosts are never dark if you make them look like pretty girls.

I just can't help but get a dark vibe when I really read into it. Yuyuko committed suicide, and she has the power to just straight up make people die. She tried to become a fucking lich, dude.
