Russia is fearful of ex-Soviet nations joining with NATO and thus, weakening Russia's hold on the regions that it has treated as its traditional backyard. We saw such a situation when Russia invaded Georgia. Len's face shows an expression of dissatisfaction. This signifies the Western power's inability to check the Russians in it's bid for regional hegemony. As Russia has nuclear missiles, military intervention from the Western powers is not a viable solution to get the Russians to withdraw.

Shirou and Arcueid

Out on a jaunt into town, Arcueid happens upon Shirou, who has his hands more-than-full taking groceries home. The second thing she notices is his magic power, including tell-tale signs of Reality Marble use. Being spontaneous and chipper as she is, she offers to help him, blissfully ignoring his attempt to politely refuse assistance.

Their chat as they walk to Shirou's home is nothing special, largely consisting of Arcueid asking innocent questions ("Whatcha makin for dinner?", "Do you live with anyone?"), and Shirou answering them without any reservations.

When they arrive at his house, Shirou invites Arcueid to dinner. Despite finding the offer tempting, she declines. As she walks away, she decides that Shirou can defend himself from other-worldly forces, and is unlikely to attract the attention of anybody too powerful for now...and that she really should enjoy a meal with the boy sometime.

As he prepares dinner alongside Sakura, Shirou wonders what the strange vibe he felt from the woman was...but dismisses it as nothing truly worrisome.
