Draw Komachi ferrying your favorite Touhou across the Sanzu. A solemn image.

Second favorite if Komachi is your favorite, of course.

Triple bonus points if it's Shikieiki.

The Sanzu River is very metaphysical though, and could be considered a boundary between Gensokyo and Higan.

Orin doesn't want your soul, she wants your dead body.

Komachi wants your soul.

I view manipulation of distance differently, and I think of her ability as not being that powerful.

Distance can be the space between atoms, but for Komachi, I think of it as just the perceived length between a perceivable source and destination. Because of that, she can change things on a massive scale, but only with two points at any given time, like two riverbanks.

I think defining it as a perceptible source and destination is important, because it limits her abilities in a reasonable manner in accordance with the games and other written material. For example, I don't think she can split a person in two with her ability, because the destination and the source that are to move away from each other would perceptibly be in the exact same place.

Likewise, if she could manipulate the distance of two opposite riverbanks to be impossibly, imperceptibly small, then it wouldn't be a riverbank any longer, simply land. A person would not say that there was a source riverbank to set sail from, nor would they say there's a destination riverbank to reach. If the source and destinations are defined as the opposing riverbanks, then that source and destination no longer exist from the person's and Komachi's point of view, and a perceivable "distance" no longer exists. Now, if simply she made the banks move closer, but still obviously separate, the person could say that the distance between the original source - the riverbank - and the destination riverbank has obviously shrunk.
