the "world boss" work rather simple: boss check if there are girls inside a 200 range around him, if there are, boss proceeds to use a skill and bash their skulls. but don't do much else
if there are no girls inside 200 range around him, then boss check further if there are girls in 200-300 range, he use a skill to firelazor them, then he selfbuff.
is important to notice that when a enemy use a skill that hit multiple targets, being closer is the criteria that determine who is getting hit.

moral of the story: you want to grab few beefy tanks that stay close to the boss as long as possible so the other girls stay safe.except this game as a rather fuzzy concept of weapon's range and tanks you can't never be sure

Diana, the girl that hold the shield in the second image has range 100. her HP are in grim conditions and is just 10 second in the fight. the fact is that she is supposed to be a tank but she has just 200 points of defense more than Ariel, another girl with 160 range who is famous for being the signature full-attack & zero-defence oriented character according to wiki, and their grade and rarity are on par, pretty strange to me
