As for the methodology, you could fill up the jars from right to left. Fairies could perform services to be moved further back in the queue. When it happens, I think at first they would act surprised, but eventually (maybe halfway), they would realise they will run out of air. From then on, every day when you dump your load, they would start to drink as much as they could of it to gain more room. First reluctantly, then more desperately as they run out of air.
