Molecular biologist here, as much as I wish it were true (that is the goddamn reason why I'm in this field of research, anti-aging and longevity), it was utterly misinterpreted and spun by tabloids out of control.

Media cannot interpret scientific affairs for shit, imo they really need to give researchers more air time to properly explain themselves.. after all, people jumping to conclusions about their research pisses them off more than mostly anything else in the world. The guys who did this were at Harvard, they are some of the snootiest researchers on the goddamn planet, they are probably pulling their hair out right now upon seeing the complete misinterpretation that almost everyone's giving their results.

More specifically, it had been a long-running experiment with a knockout group of mice for telomerase (aka they could not produce telomerase on their own and hence their telomeres shorted far faster than normal). So the mice started to age and decay for much the worse than normal versions.. and then the researchers started injecting these mice with telomerase, and unsurprisingly the decay was mitigated. Some of the rapid-decay symptoms that they had, improved slightly, but, they didn't get younger... they were simply not falling apart at the seams anymore, because they were finally being given something they had lacked their whole lives.
