In the D&D game I run, I homebrewed it so that ZUN's version of fairies are how fairies are implemented in my setting.

Anyone else do that?

Not him, but for me it's the sheer soul put into it. Apologies for the buzzword, but I truly can't think of another series with its level of detail and lore so lovingly put into it, aside from maybe Lord of the Rings. Just the fact that ZUN builds upon his creation so much and has turned down marketing deal after marketing deal in favor of total control makes me respect him like no one else.

You're a tool. I have interest in many fields of academics (linguistics, chemistry, history, anthropology, etc) but I still love Touhou. "Low-brow" and "high-brow" pastimes need not be mutually exclusive.
