See, part of why I like Meiling is that she's really pretty grounded as far as what she's capable of. All of her skills and abilities are a result of her own hard work. Sure this puts her below a lot of other characters on the power meters, but it adds to her charm when most everyone else in the setting is some crazy powerful thousand+ year old monster that could kill you in a split second, while Meiling is just some monster that learned martial arts. She doesn't have any special powers she got for just being a Youkai (at least assuming she isn't just something crazy like the embodiment of Chinese Martial Arts history or something silly like that) to prop her up.

When you throw in things like what you mentioned, or similar like how a lot of people talk about Byakuren showing her a spell or two, it cheapens all that a bit.

I have not actually. That and the other one in that series caught my eye a while back but I've never really looked into them.
