It's theorized they match up with the general personalities of the different trumpart suites.

I don't think it's been fully confirmed in canon yet, but this theory is supported by the settings info that states the Queen of Hearts makes and gives the outfits/decorations all the various Wonderland monsters wear (even humpty egg seems to have a bow), and thus like the trumparts she may assign the symbols based on that monster's general behavior.
