I didn't understand what those people were talking about, I dislike kyary, akb and babymetal but I understand that japanese music has a ton of great musicians. 70% of my music folder is currently japanese artists.

the guy probably doesn't know many japanese bands and lumps them all in as idol shit.

but weeb used to be used on people who hate themselves and want to be japanese so badly, see classic examples such as Pixyteri and Applemilk1988 as examples.

but soon weeb turned into a phrase used to split the people who like japanese culture (the traditionalist aspects) from the people who only like the anime and wacky flashy light harajuku district.

how I always see it, most people come to like japan through the same thing "anime" but there are people who move on to learn the culture and history of japan, possibly go on to learn japanese and move/visit the place. then they are people who move on to watch 8hours of anime a day and talk about how much they want to move over without even knowing how much nips hate people like that.

to put it into a diagram seeing as perfume gen loves them so much

first type: lol japan is so random
watches japanese music videos to wait for something weird to happen. love the harajuku style. probably watches naruto and one piece, possibly doesn't watch any anime at all.
wishes they were japanese.

second type: I'm an otaku
thinks he is a true enthusiast, watches anime by the bucket load, talks about wanting to move to japan for the gaijin treatment not knowing that they would get the "weeaboo piggu go home " treatment. think they are a lot better than first type because they watch anime subbed.

type three: projection intensifies
watches as many jdramas as he does anime, only watches subs if the dub is no good. grew up on shogun total war rather than naruto, may or may not be learning japanese, if learning japanese. seeks to better his understanding of japanese culture.

TL;DL;long post
