I admire japanese culture. I admire the progress theyve made as a country. I love the historic places to visit in japan as well as the subtle things that are different about urban design.

Which is why I am finally visiting. As an architecturefag, it is my first priority to take pics and sketch what I see. Tourist traps be damned. And to get around, I will ultimately need to know some spoken japanese.

Which leads me into my question to ba/jp/ajs:
How do you get over how embarassing it is to speak japanese fluently? I am trilingual and have been studying japanese as my 4th language. Actually i know more russian and german than japanese, but they are not as embarassing to speak! In fact quite the opposite, I love getting to speak some russian or german as it feels like an honest to god language.

But wow. japanese. How to say it without making you think i am just racist, because I am not, nor am I baiting. It just sounds like taka taka taka taka... ne? Or toketoketoketoke.. desuyo? *Slight head nod* God dont get me started on how often japs shake their skulls around, I bet they do it more than Indians...

It almost feels like all of Japan are using japanese ironically. And they take pride in it. Please tell me. How did you get over how weak and beta it feels to speak japanese? Should I channel some yakuza actor?
