My dude, I can't think of a site I've dusted through that doesn't have this as a very, very common form of income revenue for an artist

I remember seeing it first in 2011 but I'm positive it's been going on since before then as well.
I'm surprised its not more common knowledge. Like I stated, some artists literally do this and only this. Make a batch of characters, announce you're selling their 'rights' or whatever, people auction, prices skyrocket, chaching, someone just made 600 bucks in a weekend for just doing some drawings. Very regular.
