Komakusa Dayuu theory I saw on twitter:
Folklore as to the origin of the name of the plant komakusa (that can be seen in stage 3 and that Dayuu takes her name from): - a woman called Okoma has an ill daughter - she has a dream in which she's told to pick a plant from the top of Mount Ontake - she climbs the mountain and makes medicine from the plant - this saves her daughter's life and the plant is named after her (first okogusa and later komakusa).
Ontake has an interesting legend that says its 5 lakes were created by 5 dragon gods.
This connection might explain the dragon-themed elements of Dayuu's design and theme title etc.
I imagine ZUN was researching a lot of dragon-related folklore when coming up with characters for the game considering the title 'kouryuudou'.
