She could have easily chosen the path of sadism by spreading her gathered misfortune upon an unfortunate soul and laugh at their descent into poverty, insanity or whatever the consequences of such consistent misfortune can bring to someone.
But instead, she lives relatively isolated, and even thought of a rather altruistic, alternative way to gather the misfortune of human villagers (although it was also a means of self preservation, in a way)
