If you're keeping up with the very current vtuber drama right now, the biggest Hololive streamer was found to have a boyfriend and a shitload of people are mad right now. She was making a ton of money baiting donos with the GFE/parasocial streams, and traditionally, jp viewers aren't whales compared to us/eu streamers on twitch but she was raking it in with stuff like "virtual engagement ring donos" in the hundreds of dollars.
In comparison, I saw a few clips of Hibiki streaming on YT and she was just getting $5 here and there. The difference I guess is that she's already put out in the form of porn and people already buy her blurays so there's no point giving her hundreds of dollars in donos.
