You can create shortcuts for any folder in a certain directory, so they appear at the right of Windows 7 file selection box.
In GNU/Linux, you can simply drag-and-drop a folder to the left side selector (depending on the visual widget set your program uses, but it works for Firefox)

For file saving, you can use "Save Image to folder" and the "save file to folder" addons, then add your most frequently used folders to the Open file box's quick list.
